When people say "orthotics", they are mostly referring to foot orthotics or pedorthics. Orthoses are the external bracing of the musculoskeletal system. They are either prefabricated (we do those!) or custom made. Prefabricated braces are wrist splints, knee braces, walking boots, and most devices needed only short term.
If you need a brace for a longer period of time, it may be custom made. A casting is made by an orthotist to achieve a specific purpose. Your orthotist and a technician fabricate the orthosis in our lab, one at a time.
We treat injuries, stroke, multiple sclerosis, diabetic neuroapathy and hundreds of other musculoskeletal or neurological challenges with a variety of devices. Each is designed specifically for an individual's needs by the doctor, therapist, orthotist, and client.
Each brace is fine tuned and adjusted for comfort and function. Your orthotist becomes part of your rehabilitation team to improve or maintain your mobility.
